Title: Police investigate 11 month old baby's death
Wellington Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the death of an 11 month old baby, Teegan Tairoa-Wichman.
Inquiries for the investigation will be conducted by Police on behalf of the coroner. These investigations are normal practice for incidents of this nature.
Post-mortem findings determining the baby's cause of death may take several months and are part of the investigation.
Further comments by Police will not be made while the investigation is in progress.
Teegan had been born 15 weeks premature in October 2008. She remained in a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) until January 2009.
In early March 2009 Teegan was re-admitted to hospital after attempts by her caregiver were made to resuscitate her. She was discharged in April but re-admitted in mid-May 2009 with a virus. She died on 8 September 2009 while still in hospital.
