People’s Choice Award winners to wow Ellerslie crowds again in 2010
The People’s Choice Award winners at this year’s Ellerslie International Flower Show, Texture Plants and Outerspace Landscapes, will be back in 2010 with an exhibition garden guaranteed again wow the crowds.
Hamish and Tim Prebble of Texture Plants and Jordan Frizzell of Outerspace Landscapes used bold contrasts of plant forms and structure in this year’s award-winning garden which was a real crowd pleaser. It also won bronze for design and a gold National Lighting Award.
The team was “absolutely stoked” to win the People’s Choice Award and will be back next year with an exhibition garden which they promise will be again provide some “Off the Wall” inspiration for all garden enthusiasts.
“Next year’s exhibition garden will be more structural; there will be a real focus on light, movement, and reflective surfaces,” says Outerspace Landscapes designer Mark Sowerby
“It will also have more hard landscaping, with greater use of colour – predominately reds and oranges – along with lots of texture and pattern coming through in some strong architectural-style planting.”
He says shade and shelter will also be an important focus within the garden as “both are key elements when designing a garden, particularly in Canterbury”.
“The garden will have a sub-tropical feel with palms, a water feature and built in seating; it will make a real statement.”
Hamish Prebble of Texture Plants says the Ellerslie International Flower Show is such an important event for Christchurch.
“This year’s Show was phenomenal and the customer feedback has far exceeded all our expectations.
“Where else can those in the horticultural industry put themselves in front of a target audience of around 80,000 keen gardeners from throughout the South Island? This is New Zealand’s premier garden show and it such a great event to be involved in.”
He says they are excited about being involved again in next year’s Show. “Ellerslie is important to rejuvenate the Garden City image and I believe as a city we are well on our way to making Ellerslie one of the top five garden shows in the world – this is fantastic.”
