Nominate unsung heroes for a Civic Honour Award

Nominate your unsung heroes for a Civic Honour Award

Friday 27 November 2009

Hastings residents have two weeks left to nominate their unsung heroes for the 2010 Civic Honour Awards.

These community awards recognise people volunteering their services and making a difference to the arts, culture, education, health, recreation, sport, welfare or youth of the Hastings District.

You can nominate individuals who live in the district, or groups/organisations giving commendable voluntary service to their community.

Hastings Councillor Margaret Twigg says the awards are a chance to recognise the volunteers who make so many activities, events and services possible, often with little thanks.

“Volunteers are the backbone of so many community services and it’s important that we recognise their efforts as a district. Often these volunteers will not seek the credit themselves, so the nomination scheme is a way for others to put their names forward.”

Cr Twigg chairs the selection panel which will consider all nominations and choose the recipients. The panel is comprised of three Councillors and two community representatives.

The award itself is a framed certificate presented at an official ceremony held in the Council Chamber. Friends and family of the recipients are invited along to enjoy the occasion.

The close-off date for 2010 nominations is 14 December 2009.

Nomination forms and more details about the Civic Honour Awards are available from the Hastings District Council, or at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/community-awards
