The Christchurch City Council is seeking community feedback on the initial project design for its extension to the St Albans Community Centre.

There will be a public drop-in session at the centre (1047 Colombo Street) on Monday 16 August from 4.30pm – 6.30pm, where people will be able to look at draft plans, talk in person to the designers, learn more about the facilities to be offered as part of this project and offer feedback on the plans.

“Staff working on the project will be at the drop-in session to answer queries and explain some of the parameters of the project. They will also have feedback forms, so that people can tell us what they like about the project and give us feedback on the plans,” says the Council’s Community Support Manager, Carolyn Gallagher.

“Although we are building on a very small section, this project presents a fantastic opportunity for St Albans community groups, and we want to make sure we’re able to take into account as many of their wishes as possible for this new community facility.”

For those not able to attend the drop-in session, information about the project is available at the St Albans Community Centre at any time during the consultation period, along with feedback forms. The same information is available on the Council’s website at www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay along with the opportunity to submit online feedback on the project. Feedback must be received no later than Friday 27 August.

Following this consultation period, the project team will proceed to detailed design, seek a resource consent and put the project out to tender. It is hoped to have construction underway in about a year’s time, and for the new building to be in use by April 2012.
