ARC Chairman sends message of solidarity to people of Canterbury

6 September 2010

After witnessing the damage inflicted on Christchurch and surrounding areas and its people by Saturday morning’s earthquake, ARC Chairman Michael Lee says that Aucklanders are unanimous in their sympathy.

“The people of the Auckland region fully appreciate the trauma and shock people must be feeling having experienced the ordeal of the quake itself - as well as the heartbreak of seeing their homes damaged and destroyed. We send a message of solidarity to our fellow New Zealanders in Christchurch and Canterbury.”

“It is also sad to see some of the most beautiful heritage buildings in Christchurch, some of which are national treasures, severely damaged or destroyed. I hope that there is an extended effort to restore as many of these buildings as possible so Christchurch's unique character is restored,” says Mr Lee.
