Christchurch Court information update

Christchurch Court information following Saturday’s earthquake.
UPDATE 7 – 11.30am Friday 10 September.

Jury trials scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week have been
postponed.

Those summoned to appear next week should expect to attend court on
Wednesday but check the message on the Christchurch jury service phone
number 03 962 4399 after 5pm on Tuesday for confirmation.

Fortunately no records, files or other documents were lost or
destroyed in any of the Ministry of Justice facilities across
Christchurch.

Ministry services are making great progress in returning to normal
after the earthquake.

The Court is continuing to process new arrests and bail
applications in the normal manner as well as hearing defended hearings,
minor traffic hearings and jury pre-trial applications.

Applications for Protection Orders and other business continue as
usual at the Family Court.

The High Court, Collections, Coronial Services, Environment Court and
Maori Land Court are all operating as usual.

Disputes and Tenancy Tribunal cases will be operating as normal
from Monday.

The Rangiora Court will hear the cases postponed from this week on
Monday 20 September.

Any Canterbury residents who have concerns about fines or
reparations as a result of the earthquake should call 0800 4 FINES.

Anyone with questions or concerns on court activity should contact the
relevant number listed below.

The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation in Christchurch
and make decisions on court operations day by day.

Further media updates will be issued as new information comes to
hand.

Thank you for helping keep court users informed.
