Fatal crash, Awakeri - 24 Nov 2010
Emergency service were called to a crash involving a motorcyclist and a car at about 3.00pm on Wednesday 24 Nov 2010.
The motorcyclist had been travelling towards Rotorua when he collided with a car that was exiting a driveway approximately 300 metres on the Rotorua side of Awakeri.
The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital.
The sole occupant of the car was transported to Whakatane Hospital with minor injuries.
Traffic diversions were put in place whilst emergency services and a police serious crash investigator attended the scene.
The motorcyclist, who is from Whakatane, died in Tauranga Hospital early last evening as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Enquiries are continuing to determine the cause of the crash, but alcohol and speed are not believed to be the cause.
The deceased name will be released after 4.00pm today.
