Memorial Service for the Miners lost in the Pike River Mine Disaster

Dunedin (Wednesday, 1 December 2010) - The Dean of Dunedin is offering a Memorial Service for the 29 miners killed in the Pike River Mine at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday 3 December at 1.15pm.

Dean Trevor James says the service will provide an opportunity for this city to express its grief, to remember the miners, to show our continued care and support for the families involved, and to acknowledge the impact of this tragedy on the Grey community.

The brief service will include readings by Mayor Dave Cull and Dunedin North MP Pete Hodgeson and a reflection by Bishop Kelvin Wright, the Anglican Bishop of Dunedin.
A Book of Condolences
will be available for people to sign after the service and contributions to the Dunedin to Grey District Community Offering will be accepted.
