Stump the Hump 24hr Challenge: 22 January 20II

14/12/2010

Stump the Hump is a 24hr walking event aimed at endurance sportspeople and adventurous trampers. Participants will be challenged to walk the entire 55km of the Hump Ridge Track in a single day. Starting from Rarakau at midnight on Saturday 22 Jan, they will walk through atmospheric beech and podocarp forests during the hours of darkness, reach Okaka Lodge to see sunrise over Fiordland and the Southern Ocean, walk down the Hump Ridge and to Port Craig in the morning sunlight, and finish with an early Sunday afternoon stroll along Bluecliffs Beach. Stump the Hump is not a race: it is a chance to experience a day in the life of the track.

Stump the Hump will be a tie-in event with the Hump Ridge Track’s tenth anniversary in 2011.

Stump the Hump is unique in New Zealand. No similar overnight endurance walking events of its kind exist. Stump the Hump is not just another Routeburn Classic or Kepler Challenge that appeals solely to the endurance running community: it is a unique, all inclusive, endurance walking event designed for adventurous individuals from all sporting backgrounds. Neither a race, nor a run – its appeal will stretch far and wide and the opportunity to hike overnight and watch dawn rise over the Southern Seas will, for many people, be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Can you Stump the Hump or will the Hump stump you?
