Most spa pools are not exempt from pool fencing regulations

Lockable lids make no difference unless spa pool sides are higher than 1.2 metres

Soaking in a hot spa on the deck is a pleasure enjoyed by many, particularly after taking part in strenuous exercise but it's not just as simple as buying a portable spa and plugging it in.

Aside from any rules your local power company may have about them, the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987 requires you to register it with the Thames-Coromandel District Council and comply with the fencing requirements.

This means you have to have approved pool fencing around your spa pool if the water level is deeper than 400mm - unless the sides of the spa pool are at least 1.2 metres in height from the highest foothold and is non-climbable.

Having a lockable lid on the spa pool does not exempt you from the fencing rules.
