Mayor Wallace encourages residents to shop local

With only eight days until Christmas the streets of Lower Hutt are busy with last minute shoppers.

Mayor Ray Wallace is encouraging those still looking for the perfect gift or wanting to buy supplies for the new year, to shop locally and support Lower Hutt’s business community.

“For many local business owners it’s been a tough 12 months as they work hard to recover from recession.

“However our business owners are resilient and we’re lucky to have a great selection of local shops across our city offering everything needed for the holiday season and new year.

“I hope residents will join me in shopping locally and supporting our business community,” he says.

Mayor Wallace is also keen to see local restaurants benefit from the busy festive period.

“We have some fantastic restaurants in Lower Hutt and there’s no need to go further afield to enjoy a delicious meal.

“There’s a great variety too which means we can celebrate our cultural differences at the same time.

“I recently visited local Mexican restaurant Las Margaritas and lit their Christmas cactus instead of a traditional Christmas tree!”
