No place for violence in our Taupo community

No place for violence in our Taupo community

While the festive season is generally a time of celebration, for some, it brings both stress and frustration as financial pressures spike and tensions can boil over leading to an increase in the number of family violence incidents.

This holiday period, Taupo Police are urging people to think about what is really important and to seek help before things reach boiling point.

Family Violence Coordinator, Detective Allan Humphries says there are numerous community organisations available to assist those who sometimes feel the pinch at this time of year.

Citizens Advice Bureau, Taupo Community Food Bank and Budget Advisory Services are just some of the various local organisations who are able to assist.

Detective Humphries says Christmas is traditionally a difficult time for many families and can be a busy time for police, but there are things people can do to ease the pressure this year by enlisting the help of these community agencies.

"We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Christmas with friends and family. If you feel like things are getting too much seek the necessary help early."

Detective Humphries is also reminding families that Christmas cheer does not have to cost a lot, with the Taupo area boasting a number of free and enjoyable activities for the whole family.

Trips to Huka Falls, Spa Park or a day at the lake are just a few of the many free attractions on offer.

Family Violence is a top priority for Taupo Police staff during the Summer Policing Period and the community are reminded to take the approach of "see something, say something."

If members of the public are concerned at any time by anything they see or hear they should contact Police, either by dialling 111 or by calling the local Police Station.
