New Zealand’s First Superliner Arrives Tomorrow

New Zealand’s First Superliner Arrives Tomorrow

Pacific Pearl - the latest addition to the P&O Cruises' fleet - is on schedule to make her debut in Auckland tomorrow at 7am when she will berth at Queens Wharf.

The first superliner to be homeported in New Zealand, Pacific Pearl will arrive from Singapore after a multi-million dollar refurbishment to prepare her for her official naming.

P&O Cruises is holding a huge Pacific Island Family Christmas Festival on Queens Wharf on Tuesday December 21 to mark the ship's arrival with godmother, triple Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall, set to officially name the ship with the traditional breaking of a magnum of New Zealand bubbles onboard.

Entertainment at the free event will include a spectacular fireworks display over Auckland harbour as well as performances by headline acts Dane Rumble and Stan Walker. There will also be a large ferris wheel along with circus and street performers.

The fourth ship in P&O Cruises’ fleet, the 63,500-tonne Pacific Pearl will carry 1800 passengers and features a giant poolside entertainment screen, a Salt Grill by Luke Mangan restaurant, multiple bars and lounges including a swim-up bar and an aerial acrobatics rig spanning the width of its pool deck.

Aucklanders will get their first glimpse of Pacific Pearl from about 6.15am onwards as she comes into the Rangitoto Channel and then heads into Queens Wharf to berth.

An eight-night cruise onboard Pacific Pearl departing Auckland January 18, 2012 visiting New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands, starts from just $999 per person quad share.
