Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board by-election

22 December 2010

Nominations close for Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board by-election

Three candidates will stand for election to the one remaining position on the Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board on 10 February.

Paul Chandler, Alistair Davidson and Lyndon Graham have been nominated for the third Akaroa position on the Board and will stand in the by-election in February. Nominations closed at 12 noon today (22 December).

The by-election is taking place because only two candidates put their names forward for three Akaroa positions on the Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board while nominations were open for October’s local body election.

There are a total of five positions on the Akaroa-Wairewa Community Board. Three people represent Akaroa and the other two Wairewa.

Two other Akaroa representatives, Pamela Richardson and Leigh Hickey, were elected unopposed to the Board in August after nominations for the October election closed. They sit alongside Wairewa representatives Bryan Morgan and Stewart Miller, who were elected in October.

Electoral Officer Clare Sullivan says voting papers for the by-election will be sent out from Tuesday 18 January. To be eligible to vote in the by-election, people must be 18 years or over and be enrolled to vote in Akaroa on either the residential or ratepayer roll. Voting is by post and will close at 12 noon on 10 February.
