Provisional 2010 road toll at 373

Provisional 2010 road toll at 373

Police this morning announced the provisional road toll for 2010 is 373.

Superintendent Paula Rose, National Manager Road Policing, says the 2010 toll is 12 less than 2009 but seven more than the record road toll recorded in 2008.

In the early hours of this morning, a 35 year old male lost his life in a single vehicle crash near Napier. He was the driver of the vehicle. This brings the 2010/2011 holiday road toll to seven.

December 2010 saw the lowest road toll on record with 29 deaths recorded. December 2009 was the previous low with 35 deaths recorded.

Superintendent Rose says police are praising drivers throughout New Zealand for demonstrating good judgement and taking care of themselves and others.

“We want every journey to be a safe journey. Have a happy and safe new year.”
