Auckland Council funding for Maori Statutory Board
Residents and ratepayers should demand review of Auckland Council funding for Maori Statutory Board
Most ratepayers will be horrified at the costs of running the new Maori Statutory Board.
While there will be an element of support for greater involvement of Maori in decision-making at the Auckland Council there can be no justification for non-elected Maori appointees to have full voting rights and be paid substantial salaries.
I urge all ratepayers to contact their local councillors and demand that the funding agreement with the Maori Statutory Board be reviewed.
This process is permitted under a Schedule to the recent Local Government Act which set out the role and functions of the Maori Statutory Board.
