Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Urges Kiwis to 'Rise Up'

Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Urges Kiwis to 'Rise Up'

Mark Weldon of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal says the global telethon event for Christchurch will raise essential funds just when the city needs them.

‘Rise Up Christchurch – Te Kotahitanga’ (www.riseup.org.nz) is a 12-hour live global broadcast to support Christchurch on Sunday 22 May – three months out from the 22 February earthquake.

Mark Weldon, of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, said Christchurch still very much needs the country’s support.

“Three months on from the earthquake, Christchurch needs us more than ever. Winter is on its way and there is still a lot of hardship. Much of the community infrastructure remains in ruin.

“’Rise Up Christchurch’ is an initiative that will allow all New Zealanders to continue to get behind this.”

Mr Weldon also thanked Fonterra, who are contributing towards broadcast costs. “Corporate support like this is essential. Fonterra is an integral part of the fabric of New Zealand communities, and this support shows an on-going commitment to Christchurch.”
