Vehicle Sought in Relation to Aggravated Robbery

Vehicle Sought in Relation to Aggravated Robbery of Indian Restaurant Last Month

Wellington Police investigating the aggravated robbery of Daawat Indian Restaurant last month believe a vehicle involved in a Police pursuit in Lower Hutt later that night may be linked to the incident.

Around 9:20pm on 24 April 2011, two men, one armed with a gun, the other with a knife entered Daawat Indian Restaurant via an alleyway on Dixon Street, demanding cash from staff. They left with a cash register, which had a small amount of cash inside.

Detective Constable Jason Abbott of the Wellington City CIB says Police are looking for sightings of a dark coloured two-door Toyota Hilux, which will possibly have panel damage.

"Around 40 minutes after the aggravated robbery, Lower Hutt Police were involved in a pursuit with a vehicle, which we believe is the same one which was used in the aggravated robbery. Officers noticed the vehicle southbound on Eastern Hutt Road shortly before 10pm on 24 April 2011 and a pursuit began.

Police spikes were laid at the intersection of Eastern Hutt Road and High Street but the vehicle attempted a u-turn and was rammed by Police, before fleeing along High Street.

Detective Constable Abbott says, "We want to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the Lower Hutt area recently or anyone who may know where this vehicle is now. Anyone with any information should phone us on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
