Porirua Police Looking for Witnesses to Waitangirua Incident on Friday Night

Porirua Police are looking for witnesses to an incident on Friday night in Waitangirua, where a man attempted to lure two young girls into his vehicle.

Detective Constable Matthew Fitzgerald of the Porirua CIB says at about 7:20pm on Friday 1 July 2011, a man in a grey coloured sedan, approached two pre-teen girls outside the Chicken Shack at the Waitangirua shops.

"The man offered the pair money to get into his car and give him a massage. The girls declined, but a female witness was concerned enough to contact Police on Friday evening after the incident."

Detective Constable Fitzgerald says the man was described as Maori, in his 30's, of skinny build with short black hair.

"We're really concerned about this incident and the sinister intentions of this man. We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us as soon as possible. We'd also like to locate the two girls who were approached, as well as the woman who phoned Police on Friday evening."

Anyone with any information should phone Porirua CIB on (04) 238 1400 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
