National Foundation for the Deaf Turns Eight

and Now We Are Eight

Auckland, July 13 – The Hearing Therapists Association of New Zealand today became the eighth national organisation to join as a member organization of The National Foundation for the Deaf Inc.

Hearing therapists provide a wide range of rehabilitation services for people with hearing loss. The Association has worked collaboratively with the Foundation and the formalization of the relationship is being applauded by all.

“The Hearing Therapists Association brings a new dimension to our work and our representation. We are delighted to have them join us,” Louise Carroll, Chief Executive of The National Foundation for the Deaf Inc, said.

“Hearing loss is the largest sensory disability sector in New Zealand, and the best way we can gain recognition and services for people with this life changing disability is for all of the sector to work together.

“Having the Hearing Therapists Association as part of the Foundation adds further weight to our work for New Zealanders who are Hearing Impaired.”

The National Foundation for the Deaf Inc membership now comprises, the Hearing Therapists Association of New Zealand, The Hearing Association Inc, the NZ Federation for Deaf Children, the Pindrop Foundation, the NZ Audiological Society, the NZ Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (representing ear, nose and throat surgeons), the Acoustical Society of New Zealand, and the NZ Deafness Research Foundation.

Hearing therapists provide services to adults throughout New Zealand. They assist people to access hearing related services and to manage the difficulties they face because of their hearing loss. This assistance includes personal adjustment support and information for people with hearing loss and their families and practical strategies to cope in a hearing world.

Hearing Therapists Association President Anne Greatbatch said. “We’re looking forward to continuing to collaborate with and offer our expertise to the work of The National Foundation for the Deaf”.
