Popular road safety puppet show for parents and toddlers at library

ROTORUA 05.08.11:

Rotorua District Council (RDC) is putting on a free interactive puppet show at Rotorua District Library for parents and pre-schoolers to highlight the need to wear seatbelts.

The show, run by Puppet Vision, is being held on Thursday 11 August at 1.30pm as part of the library’s Toddler Time session and will feature local road safety ambassador Ruru the Morepork.

RDC road safety coordinator Jodie Lawson says the shows have been warmly received by local schools and pre-schools, and the library performance was another good opportunity for parents and toddlers to experience the popular show and be exposed to its important safety messages.

“Ruru is the main character in the show, and he delivers road safety messages very relevant to Rotorua.

“Not only will adults and their children be educated about carseat safety in a fun and interactive way, anyone who attends and answers the question: ‘What is the recommended height when children no longer need to use a booster seat?’ will go in the draw to win a Britax deluxe booster seat.”

A free checkpoint station with a trained carseat technician will operate outside the library after the puppet show, providing parents with the chance to get expert advice and a free check that their car seats are correctly installed.

"McDonalds has kindly sponsored this initiative so for adults who get their car seats checked there is also a limited number of vouchers for a complimentary coffee and an ice-cream for the kids,” says Ms Lawson.

"We have tried to make it as simple as possible for parents so all they need to do is drive up, get checked, take their vouchers, and roll on."

The Puppet Vision road safety show is being held at Rotorua District Library on Thursday 11 August at 1.30pm.
