Fatal crash in Beachlands - One dead, one critical

A 19 year-old Pukekohe woman is dead and a Manurewa woman in her mid twenties is critically injured after they were hit by a car in Beachlands at about 11:10pm last night.

The two women and a male were travelling east along Whitford Maraetai road. They pulled their vehicle over to the side of the road when an argument broke out.

One of the women has then walked onto the road and sat down in the middle of the eastbound lane. The second woman has walked over to her persuade her to get off the road while the male remained on the side of the road.

At the same another vehicle, travelling east, has approached, seen the girls, braked but collided with both of them.

The 19 year-old woman died at the scene and the woman in her mid twenties was taken to Middlemore hospital where she remains in a critical condition this morning.

The driver of the vehicle that collided with the women was breath tested at the scene and no trace of alcohol was detected.

The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and their investigation continues.
