Decorate schools in world cup team colours and be in to win match tickets

ROTORUA 11.08.11: Rotorua schools are being encouraged to decorate their schools and classrooms in colours and memorabilia of any of the 20 teams competing in this year’s Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC2011) for the chance to win tickets to the Samoa vs Namibia game at Rotorua International Stadium.

The initiative is part of Rotorua’s District Council’s (RDC) ‘Adopt a Team’ strategy, which is inviting local schools to hold fun events and activities supporting one of the touring teams.

Photos of decorated schools and classrooms will be judged by a panel of representatives from RDC, Mastercard and NZ2011.

The best entry will win 36 A grade tickets to the Samoa vs Namibia game at the International Stadium on 14 September at 2.30pm.

RDC Rugby World Cup coordinator Renee Nathan says local organisers are excited about the initiative with RWC2011 worldwide partner Mastercard.

“This latest event is great for our schools as it builds on the adopting a second team project and ‘Ruggerland’ activity books that every primary school child should have received, while also providing students with the opportunity to attend a match when they may not otherwise have been able to do so.”

Schools only have until 20 August to email through their entries to Mrs Nathan on renee.nathan@rdc.govt.nz so will need to get decorating quickly.

The winning school or classroom will be announced at the official Fanzone at the Energy Events Centre on 9 September, where all entries will be displayed on the big screen. A representative from the school must be in attendance to receive the prize.
