The New Zealand flag outside the Hamilton City Council Chamber will fly at half-mast for the next three days in honour of the late Sir Paul Reeves.

Sir Paul, Anglican Archbishop and Primate of New Zealand from 1980 to 1985 and the New Zealand Governor-General between 1985 and 1990, died on Sunday after a battle with cancer.

Hamilton Mayor Julie Hardaker said: “He was a great contributor to New Zealand and was an outstanding Governor General.”

Council will acknowledge Sir Paul’s life and work and formally note his passing at its next full meeting, on August 25.
