Huge Support For Taupo District's Volunteers
Locals have got behind their volunteers with 57 nominations received for the TrustPower Taupo District Community Awards and 22 nominations for the inaugural Classic Hits Volunteer of the Year Award.
Nominations for the Community Awards and the Classic Hits Volunteer of the Year Award closed on Friday 22 July. The TrustPower Taupo District Community Awards, which recognise and reward volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in conjunction with the Taupo District Council and supported by The Radio Network Taupo.
TrustPower Community Relations Representative Suzi Luff says she is excited about celebrating so many generous, talented, resourceful and hard working community groups and volunteers through this year's TrustPower Community Awards.
"Both the Community Awards and the Classic Hits Volunteer of the Year Award is all about recognising the hard work of these volunteers who are the community's unsung champions. They work tirelessly and give so much for the benefit of those who live in the Taupo District. It's awesome that through these awards we will celebrate and honour these volunteers and their hard work.
And a big 'thanks' must go to the people who nominated these wonderful people," says Miss Luff.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.
The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards. The 2011 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Ashburton district in March 2012.
A $500 radio advertising voucher is also given to the Supreme Winner from The Radio Network Taupo.
The Classic Hits Volunteer of the Year will receive a framed certificate, a weekend staying at The Sebel Trinity Wharf in Tauranga for two people and some time on-air with Classic Hits.
The TrustPower Taupo District Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Monday 5 September, to which all nominated organisations and individuals as well as nominators will be invited.
