Porirua Police pleased with results of recent CPO

Porirua Police are extremely pleased with the results of a joint controlled purchase operation over the weekend where all premises visited refused sales to the underage volunteer.

Alcohol Harm Reduction Officer Senior Sergeant Steve Sargent says a total of 28 premises were visited on Friday night in a joint operation between Regional Public Health, the District Licensing Agency and Police.

"Our 17 year old male volunteer visited 9 on-licenses, one sports club and 18 off-licenses (including supermarkets, bottle stores and superettes) and all complied with the Sale of Liquor Act, declining all purchases."

Steve Sargent says this great result reflects the work undertaken in recent months to educate staff working in on and off-licenses about their responsibilities under the law. It's really pleasing to see that the 'No ID, no sale' message is getting through.

"Those who work in premises where alcohol is being sold have a duty to protect people from the harm caused by alcohol in our communities, particularly young people. Police look forward to seeing these great results continue over the coming weeks and months."
