Keep NZ Beautiful Clean Up Week

Keep NZ Beautiful Clean Up Week It’s Not Too Late!

Dunedin – People who thought they had missed the chance to take part in this year’s Keep New Zealand Beautiful clean up still have time to register.

Although the official dates for Keep NZ Beautiful clean up week are 20 - 27 August, Keep Dunedin Beautiful has negotiated with the DCC’s Solid Waste team to continue the collection of specially marked rubbish bags until 2 September.
Dunedin residents have already embraced the challenge to clean up their city, with 540 people so far as part of a community group (17), family/individual (16) or school (4).

Locations being cleaned vary from beaches to parks to roadside verges. Many participants are cleaning an area daily until their bag is full, while others have organised a one-off large-scale clean up.

Plastic bags and glass bottles seem to be the highest volume of litter being collected. Wherever possible, recyclable materials can be placed into yellow-lidded and blue recycling bins.

To register a clean up area, please contact Keep Dunedin Beautiful at dethomson@dcc.govt.nz or on 474 3401. Once registered, the specially marked bags can be collected from the DCC or mailed out. These bags can be put out with the usual kerbside collection materials until Friday 2 September.
