Killarney Rd railway crossing to close for repairs
26 August 2011
The railway crossing on Killarney Road, Hamilton will be closed to vehicles next Sunday, 4 September from 5am-3pm so repairs can be carried out.
During the closure a signed detour will be in place for vehicles, while access to the crossing will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout this period. Sunday bus services will continue as normal however will follow a slight detour route in this area.
The closure will enable Kiwirail to complete railway track maintenance called ‘rail tamping’ to ensure current train service standard continues through the crossing, as well as assess other maintenance requirements planned to be carried out next year.
Hamilton City Council Transportation Manager Phil Consedine said Council will also be taking advantage of the closure to resurface the road of both sides of the crossing.
“By resurfacing the road at the same time as the track maintenance is carried out it enables us to reduce the amount of time that the road needs to be closed to traffic and therefore minimise any inconvenience to the public,” he said.
