Council seeks mural concepts for upgraded recycling centre

Rotorua District Council (RDC) is seeking concepts from local artists for a mural at the city’s In-Town Recycling Centre.

As part of the centre’s upgrade currently underway the council is looking to commission an experienced muralist to create a “masterpiece” on a 10m x 4m wall and which will be seen on arrival at the centre.

RDC community arts officer Kiri Jarden says the work will greet and delight staff and users of the site every time they arrive

“We are looking for a theme related to the environment, or more broadly environmental management, such as care or recycling.

“However the timeframe for getting started and completed is very tight. Proposals must be delivered or emailed to the council by 8am on Monday 12 September, and the successful applicant will be notified by September 15.

“We’ll be are looking for someone to work up a masterpiece shortly thereafter.”

• A mural brief or art curriculum vitae

• Images of completed works, including year of completion and location
• Costs for completing the work
• Time required for the work to be completed.
