Lower Hutt Police seek witnesses to indecent assault

Lower Hutt Police are seeking information from the public following an indecent assault of a young female in Naenae on Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Constable Paula Harris of the Lower Hutt CIB says the young female was walking home near the Daysh Street Bridge in Naenae at about 3:30pm on Wednesday the 31st of August 2011, when she was attacked from behind.

"The offender was armed with a knife and sexually assaulted the victim. He was last seen heading down Cambridge Terrace towards Epuni."

The offender is described as a male Maori, aged in his twenties, with a fit, bulky build. He was described as wearing baggy dark pants, a long green jacket to mid thigh, fingerless gloves and a bandanna across his mouth.

"The victim was understandably shaken and upset after the ordeal and Police would appreciate any information that may assist in locating her attacker."

Police want to speak with anybody who saw a male fitting the offender description, or anybody who may have witnessed the incident, around the Daysh Street/Cambridge Terrace area from about 3:30pm on Wednesday the 31st of August 2011.

Anyone with information should contact the Lower Hutt Police on (04) 560 2600 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
