Let’s Focus On Getting Things Done

The Rebuild Christchurch Foundation has announced the 25 February as the date of its second Let’s Get it Done weekend and will be based in the carpark of the New Brighton Club, 202 Marine Parade, opposite the pier and whale pool.

The inaugural weekend was held last September in Wainoni and saw around 200 volunteers help residents with around 150 jobs including rubble and silt removal from their properties.

The man behind the foundation, Deon Swiggs, says putting energy into action that results in real, tangible and positive results for Christchurch is where he believes those who can, should be focusing efforts at the moment.

“We want to hear from people who need help and from those who can volunteer to help,” he says. “There is still much we can do as a community to help those who still have silt to move, bricks to stack and so on,” he says. “State Insurance has been fantastic in stepping up and providing funding for a number of projects this year and we are very grateful to them.”

The Foundation’s website www.rebuildchristchurch.co.nz is a “one stop shop” for everyone wanting to find out information, share information and engage in the massive job ahead of rebuilding Christchurch.

“The site has continued to develop and integrate information from organisations including residents and business groups, CCC, CERA and EQC, with thousands of people visiting the site each week,” says Swiggs.

The Rebuild Christchurch team will be taking calls on 0800 TO REBUILD (0800 867 328 453) from Monday 6 February 2012.
