Porirua Police investigate indecent assault in Whitby

Porirua Police are investigating an indecent assault which occurred in Whitby in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Detective Shane Carter of the Porirua CIB says between 5:00am and 5:30am,
the female victim was asleep in bed with her boyfriend at their Leeward Drive home, when she was indecently assaulted by an intruder.

"The pair woke up and the offender ran down the hallway and left the house through a sliding door before fleeing in a vehicle."

Detective Carter says the incident appears to be random and isolated and urges anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Leeward Drive area early on Sunday morning to contact Police."

Police are not aware of any other incidents of this nature in the Whitby or Porirua areas in recent times.

"This incident is a timely reminder to ensure all doors are locked and windows are secured before going to bed each night."

Detective Carter says residents should report any suspicious activity to Porirua Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
