Police seek witnesses to Arsons

Papanui Police are appealing for witnesses to three arsons that they are investigating in the Breezes Road, Aranui area.

The arsons occurred between midnight and 4.00am on Saturday 18 February 2012.

Just after midnight plastic rubbish bins next to the air conditioning units for the Community Dental Health Centre were set on fire, destroying the units and causing structural and water damage to the building.

Around 2.00am a large metal waste taker bin in the grounds of the Avondale Primary School was set alight, but fortunately the fire was extinguished with no damage to any of the surrounding buildings.

Around 4.00 vegetation beside the Kids First Early Learning Centre was set on fire, causing charring to the wooden exterior of the building.

Police are investigating all 3 arsons; with 2 suspects having been observed in the grounds of the Avondale Primary School . The damage to the Dental Health centre is significant. The facility has only been open 8 months, and it is fortunate that the fire was put out before it caused more damage says Detective Sergeant Mark Reid.

Anyone with information that may assist the police is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Mark Reid at the Papanui police station on (03) 374 1712.
