22 year old charged in relation to Kilbirnie intruder burglaries

Wellington Police have arrested and charged a 22 year old man in relation to a number of recent night time intruder burglaries in Kilbirnie, which featured on TV2’s Police Ten-7 programme last week.

Detective Constable Miriam Reddington of the Wellington CIB says as a result of a public appeal on Police Ten-7 last Thursday evening, Police received a number of calls from members of the Kilbirnie community who provided us with valuable information.

“As a result, a 22 year old Kilbirnie man was arrested on Friday evening and now faces three burglary charges. These relate to alleged incidents in Childers Terrace and Queens Drive in the early hours of Friday 10 February 2012 and a further incident on Onepu Road on the 24th of February 2012."

He appeared in Wellington District Court on Saturday morning and will reappear on 23 March 2012.

Further enquiries are continuing into an indecent assault on Kilbirnie Cresent, around midnight on Thursday 9 February/Friday 10 February 2012.

“We would like to thank those members of the public who assisted us greatly with our investigation.”

Police urge residents to remain safety-conscious in their homes, ensuring doors are locked and windows are secured.
