So far - so good with the new give way rules

Police are praising drivers this morning, 24 hours after the introduction of the new give way rules.

"Most people seem to have grasped the new rules and are using them correctly," said Acting Superintendent Rob Morgan.

"We have had very few reports of any crashes, congestion or confusion. Drivers are being cautious and courteous but most seem to understand the new rules and are applying them without too much difficulty.

The challenge now will be for everyone to keep applying the new rules and not to slip back into old habits."

Police will continue to monitor traffic around intersections over the next few weeks and continue to provide support and information to drivers if it is needed.
