Sudden death at Wanaka

Wänaka Police today dealt with the report of a sudden death of a 26 year old male from the United Kingdom currently resident in Dunedin.

The deceased was part of a group of 10 persons who attended the Snow Park, Cardrona Valley to take part in down hill biking with Queenstown Bike Taxis.

The deceased was accompanied by his flat mate and friend with whom he had travelled to New Zealand to attend the Rugby World Cup last year.

The group did a brief down hill ride of two minutes before stopping at an area known as Rock drop; they had walked a short distance from this area when the man collapsed.

Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful despite the best efforts of his associates and First Aid trained staff from Queenstown Bike Taxi.

Police attempts to notify relatives overseas are ongoing and no further details will be released at this stage.

Police are offering victim support to the other members of the party.

There are no suspicious circumstances and the matter has been reported to the coroner for routine follow up.
