FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bupa New Zealand Recognised for Christchurch Team Work

Bupa Care Services New Zealand has been awarded a top International Award for their efforts during the Christchurch Earthquake crisis. There are only five Chief Executive Awards given each year by Bupa International which are held in high regard by Bupa businesses around the globe. The New Zealand team won the final award under the category of ‘Living Our Values.’

“We were delighted to receive the award and very proud of how our people continued to deliver the best care to our residents during what was a tremendously difficult time for everyone.” Chief Executive Officer, Dwayne Crombie.

While some damage was sustained at two of their six Christchurch facilities Bupa were able to continue to provide care to residents with minimal disruption thanks to the support of their Christchurch network.

Sadly, three Bupa caregivers were in the CTV building attending English language classes at the time of the February earthquake and died as a consequence of the destruction. Many other staff were also affected because of damage to their homes or had family and friends who were affected.
After the February earthquake Bupa staff around New Zealand did a significant amount of fundraising which was then matched 150% by Bupa Care Services UK. A special trust fund offering no interest loans was also set up to further assist those employees in special need of assistance which has been accessible via an application process.
