Wgtn Police want information on missing Chinese National

Wellington Police renew calls for information on missing Chinese National

Wellington Police are renewing their call for any information relating to the whereabouts of Lei Nie, last seen in 2005.

Detective Sergeant Corey Watts of the Wellington CIB says a yearly review of the file is currently underway.

"Lei Nie, also known as Andrew Nie, was last seen around the 13th of May, 2005. He was in New Zealand on a student visa which had expired."

Detective Sergeant Watts says given the lack of information, Police are again appealing to the public who may know the whereabouts of Mr Nie.

"There's no evidence to suggest that Mr Nie has been a victim of foul play. He may be in New Zealand or may have returned to China and we urge any of his associates or friends to come forward and speak with Police if they can provide any information whatsoever into his whereabouts."

Lei Nie, who would now be aged 32, was last known to be in the Christchurch area, but had connections in Wellington and the Bay of Plenty at the time he went missing.

At the time of his disappearance, Mr Nie was having financial difficulties and there was a suggestion he may have returned to China, but without any strong leads, Police have been unable to locate him and it is possible that he is still in New Zealand."

Anyone with any information should contact Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
