Petrol Station Fire

Media Release.

At about 1.30pm on Saturday the 29th July Police attended at the Anglesea Street Z Service Station where a petrol pump had been set on fire.

A male approached the forecourt of the Service Station where he uplifted a pump nozzle placed it onto the ground and activated it. The dispensed petrol was then ignited by way of matches.

A member of the public along with staff from the Service Station were able to extinguish the fire before the arrival of the Fire Service.

Three petrol pumps were damaged causing closure of the Service Station for a period of time.

Police are seeking witnesses to this incident and to the offender who left the scene on foot. He was last seen running south on Anglesea Street and into Clarence Street.

He is described as a six foot tall, athletic male maori wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with a black vest over the top and White, green and grey camo style long trousers.
