Big Screen Confirmed for Garden Place

Big Screen Confirmed for Garden Place

2 AUGUST 2012
For Immediate Release

A big screen will be set up in Hamilton’s central city square Garden Place to show Saturday night’s Investec Super Rugby final between the Chiefs and the Sharks at Waikato Stadium.

Sean Murray, Hamilton City Council’s General Manager Events and Economic Development, says local businessman John Lawrenson approached Council with an offer to fund installation of a large video screen in Garden Place. Mr Lawrenson is working closely with Council staff to obtain the required.

“Installation of the screen is not connected to Council’s planned family zone activities in Garden Place, but will follow-on from what we are doing. Our events kick-off at 3pm, and run until 5pm, and after that Mr Lawrenson and his team will begin their preparations, including providing security for the event.

“It is important to emphasise Council is not bearing any cost here, other than staff time, and Mr Lawrenson has given us a commitment the big screen event will be managed by his team, and the big screen removed once the Super Rugby final is completed.”
