JCI Christchurch to Green-up Wharenui Primary

JCI Christchurch to Green-up Wharenui Primary

Since the re-launch of JCI Christchurch in April, a team of dedicated young leaders have worked hard to better themselves and the Christchurch community through several grassroots-level projects. Adding to the list, they are now working hard to ensure that Wharenui Primary School in Riccarton, Christchurch, has a great new initiative to support learning, leadership and community volunteerism through their “Wharenui Garden Project”.

Stage one of the project, also part of the Student Volunteer Army Trust initiative, “The Concert”, is to take place on the school grounds on August 19. This day will see The Wharenui Primary community and a group of volunteers work alongside JCI Christchurch and a group of sponsoring organisations to help develop a mini-orchard, aboveground planters and other key gardening spaces. This project will help inspire the pupils of Wharenui Primary to engage with a community ecosystem, and develop important skills involving teamwork, volunteering and leadership. JCI Christchurch hopes to see positive outcomes, both for the school and the local community.

JCI Christchurch is a local chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI); a world-wide non-profit organisation with over 200,000 members in 100 countries, dedicated to giving young people between the ages of 18-40 personal and professional development opportunities, empowering them to create positive change in their local community. The mission of JCI Christchurch is simply to inspire young people to create positive change in the Christchurch community by engaging them in grassroots volunteer projects, while also giving them practical public speaking, project managing and other professional skills.
