20 kms south of Ward: State Highway One closed due to slip

State Highway One, approximately 20 kilometres south of Ward (which is south of Blenheim on the East Coast of the South Island), has been closed due to a slip that is covering both lanes. The slip is still on the move and the road is not likely to open again until the morning.

Due to the location, the only detour for motorists is via the Lewis Pass through to Murchison and down the Wairau valley to Blenheim (reverse for southbound motorists).

Further updates will follow once NZTA has a better idea of when they expect to open the road.
