Polar Plunge returns to Winter Carnival

Polar Plunge returns to Winter Carnival

Hutt City's winter swim, the Polar Plunge, is back for 2012. Reintroduced as part of the exciting line-up at the Petone Winter Carnival, it's been scheduled for Saturday 25 August on the Petone Foreshore.

As in previous years, organisers are expecting crowds of colourfully dressed-up participants to test each other's courage and have fun. Entry is open for all ages.

Thomas Buchanan, Hutt City Council's major events coordinator, says, "the Polar Plunge is a fantastic event and it's great to have it back as part of the Carnival this year. Get together a group of friends, colleagues, or family, dress up and take the Plunge! It's going to be a lot of fun."

The Polar Plunge is generously supported by Mitre 10 Mega Petone, who provide great prizes for 'best dressed' and lots of spot prizes for those who brave the chilly waters.

Everyone who takes part in the Polar Plunge will be asked to donate a gold coin for Wesleyhaven in Naenae to support their services and facilities for elderly. Wesleyhaven will be selling sausages, hot soup and coffee on the beach for both participants and spectators.

Participants are encouraged to register online in advance at www.petonecarnival.co.nz. All online entries received before 5pm Wednesday 22 August will go into a special prize draw which will be drawn on the day.

Registration on the day opens at the Classic Hits Main Stage (next to the Heretaunga Boat Club) at 12pm. Judging and prizes for best dressed begins at 12:30pm, with the swim at 1pm.

The event with be hosted by MCs from Classic Hits 90.1 FM.
