Lower Waitaki Zone Committee meeting

The Lower Waitaki–South Coastal Canterbury Zone Committee will meet in Oamaru on Thursday, 16 August, to discuss local water management issues.

At the meeting the committee will discuss its workplan for the coming months and receive an implementation update on two key components of the committee’s ZIP - catchment groups and biodiversity.

Other items on the meeting agenda include a briefing on the Hunter Downs Irrigation project and an overview from Environment Canterbury on its sub-regional planning process for South Coastal Canterbury.

The Lower Waitaki-South Coastal Canterbury Zone Committee operates as a joint committee of Environment Canterbury and the Waimate and Waitaki District Councils.

The zone extends from the Otaio catchment in the north, to the Waitaki Dam in the south, taking in Waimate, Kurow and Duntroon.
