Residents advised to self evacuate for second night

15 AUGUST 2012

Residents advised to self evacuate for second night

Residents of six properties in the Christchurch suburb of Hillsborough are being advised to self-evacuate for the second night tonight because of the recent heavy rain and ground conditions.

Four of the six properties in Lucas Lane are occupied; all residents self evacuated last night.

“Heavy rain in the last couple of days has been entering the cracks at the top of the cliff and while there has been no land movement, our geotechnical staff have reassessed the area and advised self evacuation for a second night,” the Council’s City Environment General manager Jane Parfitt says.

“This is a precautionary measure.”

She says the situation will be reassessed again tomorrow by geotechnical staff.
