All invited to Honda-GWRC planting day

Honda New Zealand and the Greater Wellington Regional Council are inviting keen members of the public to roll up their sleeves for a Honda TreeFund planting day in Belmont Regional Park on Saturday 25 August.

Taking place at the park’s Oakleigh Street entrance in Maungaraki, 300 native trees will be planted to help re-establish native bush. Greater Wellington staff will be on hand to help the local volunteers, Honda customers and Honda employees at the planting, followed by light refreshments.

“This highly successful partnership between Greater Wellington and Honda New Zealand is now in its eighth year, and the results have been fantastic – Honda TreeFund has funded more than 68,000 native trees for the Wellington region, making a significant contribution to biodiversity and enhancing the region’s network of natural spaces,” says Cr Nigel Wilson, Chair of Greater Wellington’s Social and Cultural Wellbeing Committee.

“TreeFund is about encouraging local bio-diversity,” says Graeme Seymour, Managing Director for Honda New Zealand. “Our planting days give staff and customers the opportunity to become involved in the protection and restoration of native tree populations in their own local community.”

Established in 2004, the Honda TreeFund has accumulated funding for more than 497,000 native trees nationwide. Honda and its national network of Honda agents fund the planting of 13 native trees for every new Honda sold. Honda owners are also encouraged to contribute to the fund and members of the wider public can donate to their local Honda agent.
