New uniforms boost confidence

Rotorua Lakes High School’s Junior A netball team will be looking sharp when they compete at the upcoming Kurangaituku Tournament, thanks to $1185 grant from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).

The grant has enabled the team to purchase new, custom-made netball dresses, to wear during the secondary schools’ section of tournament on September 15th and 16th.

Played over three weekends, the Kurangaituku tournament is New Zealand's largest club netball tournament, accommodating approximately 340 teams, who between them play up to 650 games. This year Rotorua will host the Kurangaituku tournament for the 79h time.

The Australasian tournament allows the Rotorua Lakes High School team to showcase their talent while wearing the new uniforms with pride.

Rotorua Lakes High School Sports Co-ordinator Lisa McFarlane says the girls will benefit from the new uniforms as their confidence and self -esteem will increase.

‘’It’s important for the team to look sharp, as this boosts their morale on the court,” says Ms McFarlane. “The uniforms will also help to give the girls a sense of unity and camaraderie, which will be needed as they participate in this competitive tournament.

“We would like to thank NZCT for the funding and we will wear their new uniform with pride,” she says.

NZCT is one of the largest funders of amateur sport in New Zealand and is proud of the contribution it makes to communities and sports across the country. NZCT grants help keep sport accessible and affordable for many thousands of Kiwis every year.

NZCT’s Regional Advisory Committee member, Trevor Maxwell, says the trust is mindful of returning funds to the community where they were raised. He wishes all the netballers in the Kurangaituku tournament, the very best of luck.
