Auckland Central Residents Enjoy MOTAT Free in September

Auckland Central residents can look forward to fun and interactive experiences for free at MOTAT from 1-28 September.

As MOTAT’s way of saying thanks to the ratepayers of Auckland for their support throughout the year, this initiative will encourage them to explore the constantly changing exhibitions and activities that MOTAT has on offer.

From September 1-28, Auckland Central residents will gain free entry to MOTAT by presenting vouchers that will appear in local papers and letter boxes throughout the month, vouchers available at local libraries, or by displaying their rates bill or proof of address on entry. A list of eligible suburbs can be found on the MOTAT website, www.motat.org.nz.

September is a great time to visit MOTAT with plenty of activity and exciting exhibitions on the go. With the new ‘End of the Road’ exhibition featuring the first car crushed under government legislation and MOTAT’s multi-award winning Aviation Display Hall, there is a lot to check out. Every Sunday, visitors can see MOTAT’s resident blacksmith at work or take home a souvenir printed onsite in the MOTAT printing press workshop. And additional activities occurring on Sunday the 16th of September include military vehicle rides, a children’s bookbinding workshop and even a lollymaker!

Dates
1-28 September 2012.

FATHER’S DAY AT MOTAT

MECCANO model construction kits have been a family favourite since they were invented in 1901, so what better way to treat dad on Father’s Day than sharing childhood memories of mechanised marvels.
The whole family will love the mechanical fun of MECCANO. With a fascinating display of pre-made MECCANO models on hand for inspiration, dads and kids alike will love having a turn at creating their own MECCANO masterpiece in the construction zone.
Beginners and pros will also get the chance to learn from the master model makers of the Auckland MECCANO Guild to the beat of rock band Union, which will have the place humming with Father’s Day excitement across the weekend.
All activities run from 10am-5pm and are included in your normal MOTAT admission fee.

CRUSHED CAR NOW ON DISPLAY AT MOTAT

Get up close and personal at MOTAT with the very first vehicle crushed under the government’s new legislation against so-called “boy racers”.

Suspended vertically from its boot, the crushed car is now on show in an awe-inspiring exhibition called ‘The End of the Road.’

Telling the intriguing story of how an ordinary car became an interesting part of New Zealand’s transport history, ‘The End of the Road’ looks at the history of New Zealand’s road safety laws, the process of recycling cars, the science of hydraulic car crushers and the story of how the crushed car ended up at MOTAT.

The crushed car was bought by MOTAT last month in a TradeMe auction for $818, with all proceeds going to Youthline.

This exhibition is available for all MOTAT visitors free with their normal admission fee and is definitely not one to miss!
