Navy Joins Search For Missing Paddle Board Rider

North Shore Police are continuing the search for an Auckland man who is missing after entering the water on a paddle board near the North end of Takapuna Beach.

The man who is aged in his 50’s went missing on Wednesday afternoon. His board was later found by the crew of the police launch Deodar a short distance further along from the point of entry.

The missing man is described as 188 cm tall, thin, muscular build and short grayish hair.

The Navy will join the search mid morning after a request to assist. Using advanced sonar equipment their mission will be to carry out a grid search in a sea area that is one kilometre x 500 metres off Takapuna Beach.

The Police Dive Squad is expected to arrive in Takapuna at noon.

Victim Support is assisting the missing man’s family at this difficult time.

Anyone who may have seen the man enter the water or observed him to fall from his paddle board into the sea, is urged to call North Shore Police on 09 477 5000.
