Taupo Police continue investigation into alleged assault

Taupo Police continue investigation into alleged sexual assault late last week

Taupo Police are continuing to investigate an alleged sexual assault which occurred last Thursday night (30 August 2012).

Detective Sergeant Tony Manunui of the Taupo CIB says around 10:45pm last Thursday night, the 22 year old victim was walking down Heu Heu Street, then entered a service lane leading to the rear entrance of Urban Retreat Backpackers when she was approached by an unknown male and grabbed.

"A struggle between the pair ensued and the victim ended up on the ground but managed to fight her attacker off and scream for help."

The offender ran off towards Titiraupenga Street.

Detective Sergeant Manunui says Police have analysed CCTV from the area and would like to speak to the male in the attached image who may be able to assist Police with their enquiries.

"We would like to hear form anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the alleged incident last Thursday night, or from anyone who recognises the male in the attached CCTV images."

Anyone with any information should contact the Taupo Police on (07) 378 6060 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
